How to Start Paper Trading with $10,000

Step 1: Sign up

Create an account at yrobot.us. It is free and needs no card. Paper trading is on the free tier; the paid tier adds live trading through Robinhood.

Step 2: Open the Trading Agent

Go to the Trading Agent page at yrobot.us/trading-agent.

Step 3: Pick a preset strategy

Read each preset's description first, including when it sits in cash. The presets include Earnings Growth, Quality Fundamentals, Revenue & Beats, GARP, Earnings Streak Rider and Chart Timing.

Step 4: Start the paper portfolio

Activate the agent with $10,000 of virtual money. Place a first trade yourself or let the agent place it.

Step 5: Review after a week or a month

Look at the trades taken, time in market and drawdown. Compare with simply holding an index fund over the same period.

Step 6: Only then think about live trading

Decide whether live trading is right for you only after you have watched the paper portfolio for a while.

What this can't tell you

That paper results repeat with real money. Fills, emotions, costs and taxes all differ.
